Just bought an extra slot --- which proffesion? help!
As you guys know... the GW store is open
I just bought this extra slot 10 seconds ago; and wanting to start another profession. I can't decide between an Elementalist or a Mesmer. YES, I know that most pve groups are in need of a nuker; not a mesmer. Yes elementalist probably have more uses in pve (correct me if I am wrong). I did start an ele character about 3 times before, but deleted it... I just didn't like it... as a PvE. I never tried creating mesmer before, but I have enjoyed it like no other in pvp. I can think of a thousand ways a mesmer can help a party in pve too; yes mesmers can be quite a damage dealer too like an ele (although not quite). Can anyone give me suggestions plzz... any incoming advice is greatly appreciated |

Do you like Necro or Ranger better?
If you like curse necro better then take a mesmer. If you like Ranger better do an ele. Also note if you take a Mesmer/ele and stoke fire, inspiration, fast cast attributes you can spam flares and nukes faster than any ele nuker can, you just have to use inspiration energy management skills to make up for your lack of energy pool. (Of course if you do it right, I think you can out damage deal an ele with dom and/or illusion skills, its just that nobody else sees all the red stuff flinging around so you get no credit...) I wish they would throw up like dark green numbers for allied damage done so you can see what is going on. |

It all depends on what you like. For me I see no use for a mesmer in any party. Where as I would include an ele in every party.

If you didn't like playing an ele before, why do you think it would be different now? It's true that there's quite a bit of anti-mesmer sentiment in PvE, But there are also those that do see the value of having a good Mesmer in their group to soften the enemy up. I've seen people leave the group as soon ans my Mesmer's been added to a group, that's how ignorant they are.
With a Mesmer, you can slow down enemies, get enemies to beat themselves up, take away caster's energy, and put a stop to their heavy-hitting spells, or wipe away hexes on your allies while putting a big hurt on enemy mobs. (I LOVE the opportunity to use Shatter Hex on my party's Tank while he/she is surrounded by baddies!) It may take you a bit longer to get into a PUG, but I've found that the PUGs that include Mesmers are generally more likely to succeed than those that won't accept them. |

May I ask how oneself buys extra slots? I didn't know the extra slots were added yet, I've been computer-less for the last few days.

mesmers have their use, its a tricky class to use but very powerful and dangerous. in pve the effect a mesmer makes is not noticeable, but they can help take down faster some enemies, specially monks that dont have spell breaker. |

I loved my mesmer when it came to Thirsty River and Thunderhead Keep. No more healing for you bastards! |

Choose the one you prefer playing. My mesmer was refused from most groups because she was a mesmer, but I played her through the the end of the game. My elementalist was accepted into every group, but I just didn't like it. Not much fun for me, so she is still in Ascalon.
edit - there is also the fact that everybody expects you to be a fire nuker capable of producing 2 meteor showers. If you play a monk it's up to you how you heal. A warrior it is up to you how to tank or deal damage. A ranger it's up to you whether to bring traps, interrupts, a pet, barrage, poison etc. A mesmer has loads of choice because nobody in PvE really expects you to do anything. I had great fun running varied builds and trying skills out. Ele is there for the meteor shower. Last edited by Carth`; Jul 29, 2006 at 03:50 AM // 03:50.. |

To the OP, if you have tried ele and didn't like it before, then why would it be fun now? If you haven't made a mesmer yet, or made one and liked it, then why don't you make/remake one? Ya, it might be harder for them to find groups, but the groups with mesmers also seem to do A LOT better in pve, timewise and survival wise. Also, why don't you consider assassin? They are a fun class, even though maybe hard to master and get into groups with, but can be really usefull (sorta like a mesmer). I know you have factions because you said you have a rit, so why not consider assassin? |
